Wireless Help - Installed NDISwrapper + Driver Still Not working
 

Hi all,
My girlfriend's Dell Latitude had windows acting totally crazy and corrupted by spyware. I decided this would be the perfect time to try installing a linux OS, since she had basically considered it dead. I installed ubuntu and started following the directions on how to get wireless working, since the card didn't seem to be supported by the OS. Found some drivers, they didn't work. Messed around with it for about two hours, finally got NDISwrapper installed (I am a total linux noob) and tried some drivers. Eventually found my way to this page and used the first one (49)

with ndiswrapper 1.5 and Linux Kernel 2.6.14.2. I used the files bcmwl5.inf and bcmwl5.sys.


It says that it's installed successfully. However, when I type in iwconfig, wlan0 doesn't even show up. For all intents and purposes, shit should be working but it's not. And so I turn to you fellows. Any suggestions?

It's strange you needed to use ndiswrapper. The link you've posted above doesn't work! What model latitude? What release of Ubuntu? (the latest 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope has been released today it might be worth your while installing that instead) Do you have a network icon in the top panel? Post the output of ifconfig.

Sorry about the link, looks like it posted funny. I'm running 8.10 ubuntu on a dell latitude D610. When I originally turned on the computer the network manager's areas were all greyed out (wired network, etc), which I read up on and took to mean that it didn't recognize my wireless card. Thus, this whole process. ifconfig yields:

I'm fine with trying solutions other than NDISwrapper because all it's done is cause problems.

Where did you get the driver from that you used with ndiswrapper? Is the driver for the Intel Pro 2200 wireless (802.11 b/g) card? From the info above it does confirm the card is not setup. Did you right click the network icon? Does Enable Networking have a checkmark in the box? Please also post the output of lspci.
