Maybe I wasnt clear about my problem,I just got this laptop(hp650) with Suse sled11 in it (used dual boot W7 and Mint before)and boughht me Alfa awus036h wireles usb cause I depend on wireless at the moment, anyway I was hoping that usb will work "out of the box"(it didnt)),tried to install rtl8187l driver (procedure from ubuntu forum),card was recognized, tried to connect, system crashed (several times).Im very unexperienced in Linux so I would need step by step explanation how to get this thing to work,(which driver, how to install,do I need to blacklist other drivers, which ones and how?Any help would be appreciated!!!

I got this card working and than reboot and now is not working again. How do I turn it on again?

timl 04-30-2013 05:47 PM

vernes, tell us what you did! post #4 You solved this problem. Nope. Post #6 You got it working and then it didn't work after the reboot.

It looks like you are on the right track but what did you do around posts #4 & #6?

How come I could be the one solving this problem when I m 100% new into linux. Is there like nobody here that knows this stuff for real?Only guy I know would probably fix this is my friend s brother who is so busy that u can even get him to talk on the phone more then 5 minutes( not enough time for me to even understand what a heck his talking about).Anyway I did install the driver r8187l.ko or rtl8187l(its the same one I think, there is also another one called rtl818x???)and thing was working perfectly till the moment I tried to connect to a open wrls, then system collapsed,(black screen frozen),reboot, same thing again.Did the system recovery with usb atached( accidentaly)noticed that system is listing RTL8187 in usb device section ( was running fast couldn t read all..).After setting up a system again, surprise; Alfa is working completely normal with a list of available connections running in network manager like it was built inside and not atached.(Same thing happens when u install usb adapter in windows7,it just takes over of the built in card. Now Im usink TP link tl822n which is showing separately).Tried to connect; PERFECT CONNECTION FROM HEAVEN!!!Nobody is happier than me.Just out of curiosity did a reboot, WTF??its not working again, completely dead...So I figure this thing is somewhere inside a computer and u just have to find a way to tell it what to do.(I dont know If Im making any sense with this). If anyone having some ideas your welcome!!!Now Im going for a swimm.
Best regardz from sunny Split,Croatia.

Well, when you post that you got something working, but don't post what you did, most of us will simply not bother posting anything else until you bother posting WHAT you did.

What's the point of suggesting something if it's already been done?

I think you might have somewhere in that giant block of text finally said what you did, but since it's 1 giant block, I'm not bothering myself to try to dig through it to find what you did. We're not getting paid on this site. If it's inconvenient for someone to READ what has been done, they'll just move on to something else. It's not like you're paying us for support.

Dear Timothy,
Sorry about my literary style that bothers you,but guess what, some of us actually do have a real life (that is the one outside of the living room u know, with beach and chicks and stuff,..)so we cannot spend a whole day experimenting with software we dont know much about and hardware that should work "out of the box"(it does not) and after that post it to forums like this one explaining it step by step.I ve joined here xpecting other more xperienced members to help me and all I got from you is some wiselike tales and couple of broken links.Im trying to get this adaptor to work for 3 days now and I did make some progress but for me its still not completely solved. When I do it I will xplain how. Therefore, If U could take a time to read my posts U would know what a stupid heck U are.Give my best to all the cows and bulls in your pretty farm.

Timothy Miller 05-01-2013 12:27 PM

Again, you never explained WHAT you did, or WHAT you hadn't done.

So, help me fix my car. It's broken. Wait, it's fixed. Nope, it isn't. So, why haven't you told me what to do to fix it yet?

Not much help in telling anything, huh? That's what your posts were. It works. No, it doesn't. Wait, it does. If you had said "I changed this and it started working but then after a reboot it didn't" then that's something we would be more likely to help with. But just saying it worked then it didn't...not helpful.

And notice how I put space between different thoughts? Takes all of 1 second, and makes it a LOT easier to read instead of 1 huge block of text. Simple things like this are called "online manners", which are very useful when asking people to help you.
