wireless
if I put in a wep code and it says connect, does that mean i have entered the right code. still trying to find my way. After i enter this code I still can`t connect wireless
|
What distro? What desktop environment? Where does it say connect? What other messages does it give? When you go to the internet, can you access stuff?
People will help you if you give lots of information. |
The short answer to the original question is: "no". The system will attempt to connect with whatever info you type in. If it's wrong, it won't connect.
BUT--as jmite says--you have to give us more info on your system. What wireless card?, what OS? (eg version of Linux), what internet connection tool? etc. |
just install wicd and let it do all the work for you.... ;)

I agree with wicd.

thanks everybody I will work my way through everything .I`ll let you know how it goes.

Hello leo114,
the above tells you that your wireless adapter is working but needs to be configured. Markus |
What is the easy way to do this. And thanks

Look at documentation for your distro: https://help.ubuntu.com/9.10/internet/C/index.html

I merged your latest thread into the previous one on wireless---please do not start new threads on the same subject where you already have one open.
Your iwconfig output says that your wireless driver is installed--all you have to to is put in the right settings---eg the ESSID, encryption, etc. I think people have already suggested the Ubuntu network manager. You can also try WICD---if it's not already installed, you can surely get it using the Ubuntu package manager. You can also do the settings in the terminal using iwconfig----see the man page for details. Have you tried to see if it sees your local access point(s)? Code:
iwlist wlan0 scan |
dear pixellany,
I tried that code It said no scan results |
