Wireless card not working - slack 13.37
 

I consider myself a newbie for debian, running a few games under wine, surfing the net writing docs etc is about the extent of my linux skills.

I am used to installing debian, setting up root password, username and password and then going to town.

I wanted to get into something completely different and slack was it.

After fighting acpi and xorg issues with the help of a fellow slackers I finally have a bootable laptop running Slack 13.37. Just one small problem. Wifi doesnt work.

I know the wifi card works as it was the same card in my previous windows 7 install and debian installs and worked just fine. The only difference in this laptop (Dell e6500) is I swapped out the 160GB spinner for a 120GB Vertex 3 SSD.

Is there a way to check the kernel modules for wifi cards and if the wireless card is compatible.

The card does show in the kinfocenter "Intel Co Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300".

As I said before I am a newbie to linux as a whole and slack was only installed a few days ago, so anything anyone can offer as guidance that is current or help would be very appreciated.

If the card shows, what does lsmod tell you? (open a terminal, type lsmod, post results here on this thread).

To set up wlan the easy way in slackware, install wicd (if it isn't) and use it to configure your card.

Sometimes you'll need to make sure your card isn't hard or softblocked (wifi switch or button or Fn+F7 etc)
