Wiping Windows 7 and installing Linux?

I am wanting to wipe my windows 7 COMPLETELY , and install a distribution of Linux. I know nothing about how to do this, but I do know you can with a flash drive I've heard. So, how does one do so? Also this is going to be mainly for a gaming server, so what distribution would you recommend? I've heard Ubuntu was good. Thanks for the input!

The installer will take care of this for you. And Ubuntu LTS release (Long Term Support) will do you fine, and as the most recent release, 12.04 IS an LTS release, win.

I've tried out the installer? If you're talking about the Windows Installer. It just makes it to where I have a choice between Windows/Ubuntu when I boot.

That's not a question?

Why would I be talking about the windows installer? You want to install Linux, right?

Jake,

What you want to do is create a bootable image (which is what you would download) on a flash drive and boot from the flash drive.

I guess you are asking how to install linux using flash drive and wipe out your windows..
First you need to get usb installer from net. Use this usb installer and then make a bootable flash drive having linux.
Reboot your pc with 1st boot device as usb. Then the installer GUI will guide you well.

Am thinking you still have windows installed on your machine, so go here http://www.pendrivelinux.com/univers...easy-as-1-2-3/ and load your distro on your flash disk and wipe out the windows partition, you can create mostly a / drive swap and may be home

It sounds like it would be easier for you to download the iso, and burn it to a disk put the disk in the drive restart computer hit what ever key makes cd bootable and go from there. Welcome to freedom btw
