You've been here for ten years, and have posted about using and installing several distros in the past; now you can't install it?? Also, you need to provide some details because saying "unable to do it" tells us nothing. What version of Linux are you trying to install? What distro??

Any installer will offer you the choice of formatting your existing drive and/or deleting partitions. Do that.

Yes, I am on linux for many years and enjoying it very much. Now I am trying to install it on a HP Pavillion dv2000 but it does not work, that is why I would like to wipe it completely. I have tried several versions, on CD and on USB, at boot time on the USB I get several videos of the installation program screen, that is the problem I wish to get rid of...

Again, saying "does not work" tells us nothing. And again, if you've loaded it before it's hard to think why you can't load it now. There are no 'videos' on the installation screens, so we have no idea what you're talking about.

Again: boot from installation media, and when you get to the part about formatting your drive, DO IT. There are also most likely installation instructions on the distro websites that tell you exactly how to install whatever it is you've downloaded.

Please try to post the steps you've followed, per version you've tried, take pictures of the screen or something. As noted by TB0ne, many, many distributions when you install give you the option to install entirely Linux and overwrite any pre-existing OS.

That's a 32-bit machine. Make sure you download 32-bit versions of Linux to try out. Puppy might be a good distro to try here.

..and that is *NOT* what you get..that is the installation screen for what appears to be Lubuntu 19. Please answer questions clearly.

You say it 'doesn't work'....what do you actually DO from that screen? Have you clicked the "Install Lubuntu.." button??

@dlaval,

That is the home screen for a successful Live boot of Lubuntu 19.10.

Clearly shown there is an icon titled "Install Lubuntu 19.10".

What's the problem? Have you not tried to run that? Suggest you do.

TUVM I have tried many distro, the latest one Bodhi Legacy which is a 32 bits. Gives me the same difficulty, several screens on boot and see nothing asking to format the C drive.
Last thing to try is a GParted - somehow I can not add photos

That's because "C drive" is Windows terminology.

Linux does not speak Windows.

The formatted partitions will appear in fdisk or cfdisk or gparted as /dev/sda[something or other].

Linux does not see drives a Letters like Windows. if you want to wipe it. most, not all distros have a wipe drive and install there distro option. just pick that and let it do its thing, after you've entered your user name / password. which just means select install distro, then read and follow the prompts.

Under Lubuntu applications I see Disk Utility.

You should be able to do what you like with the disk with that application.

dlaval 04-14-2020 09:30 AM

downloaded the Disk utility as suggested, keeping my fingers crossed

No, a disk utility was NOT suggested to be 'downloaded', since **IT WAS ALREADY ON THE MENU** for Lubuntu. AGAIN: all you have to do is run the install program...that's it. Tell it to format the disk during installation.

dlaval 04-14-2020 10:03 AM

downloaded the Disk utility as suggested, keeping my fingers crossed. now the file is on its particular repertory file named /téléchargements/disk utility and unarchived ( I think) Time to compile it I suppose and put it on a usb key to run it on the damned laptop to wipe it. Need help for that, thanks
