WinXP is unBootable and NDLR is missing !!

Hii all....
am having a really bad problem with SuSE linux Personal 9.1
and im seeking everyone's help right now :( i hope that someone can...

well here is my problem... and keep on mind that im not an expert with the Linux so please provide me with a smooth soulution for my problem...

Im using a Fujitsu-Seminse Laptop
P4 HT 3.2
RAM 512
Hard Disk 75GB
Already Installed: Windows XP Home ED.

I have 2 Hrad Disks.. One Primary (master) 50 GB and the Other Logical 25 GB
The Logical HD has nothing on it...

I installed The SuSE Personal 9.1 on my machine..
I changed nothing during the installation and I noticed that the Instalation installed SuSE on the Primary HD after rePartitioning it into 25GB and 25GB..

any way... both my Primary and Logical HardDisks were NTSF before I install SuSE

My Problem Now is... After Installing SuSE LINUX Personal 9.1 the "Windows XP is no longer Bootable"!
SuSE is working PERFECT !! but when I chose the Windows from the GRUB its start Booting the windows XP then it stops and gives the following:

Root (hd 0,0)
Filesystem type unknown
Partition Type 0x7

NTLDR is missing
Press ctrl+alt+del to restart

When I press the ctrl+alt+del it restart but nothing fixed! and I looked for the file NTLDR on my PC and copied it on a CD the I wanted to paste it on my Laptop! BUT i found the NTLDR on the folder (i386) and I also found it on the C HardDisk where my "unBootable windows XP installed"

So Can someone now please help me with booting the Windows XP without formating or losing any data! and if there is no way to fix this problem is there a way to remove the SuSE and return my Laptop to its original features ?!

Thank you very much for help...

Post again if you can't solve the problem.

If it helps any, I screwed up an install enough that I couldn't boot in either 9.1 or Windows! (I was able to recover!) Somebody here got me through it just fine.

I have the same problem with my IBM, I followed the solution from SuSE, but it does not works.

What I do is completely reformat my harddisk, and reinstall window xp, then defregment the hard disk, use partition magic to creates a Linux and swap partition, and ask partition magic to format the Linux partition just created then install SuSE 9.1 and everything run fine(I can boot from either window xp or Linux).

I tried the Solution on suse's website
http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2004/0...booting91.html
but it didnt work !!
and when i inset the update CD it says that there is no ubdates availabe!!

I can format the hard disk but i really dont want to... there must be an easier solution!
so please guys.. i really need ur help... thanx

First backup your data from the Windows partition. Then use the Windows CD and run it in rescue mode. Try running fixmbr. This will replace grub with the Windows boot loader. There is high possiblity that Linux may have screwd up your Windows partition. Its not the Linux installer problem, its the user's fault.

You can get in a lot of problems with Partition Magic after it formated Linux partitions. Its best to to make an unformated partition with Partition Magic and let Linux delete that partition. Then tell Linux to format it on its own. Try not to use Partition Magic to format partitions.

kal_q:
You do not have two hard drives. What you did is made two partitions. One partitions is 50GB for Windows (Primary partition) and 25 GB for Linux (Logical partition).

There is no such thing as folders in any OS. They are called directories, so forget what Microsoft is naming them.

hii all... hiii "Electro"...

will "electro" im gonna try ur solution right after i get home...
but... untill this time, someone gave me this solution!
hmmmmm!! lets read....

Quote:

your problem is with the GRUB!! GRUB cant detect the windows! your windows partition is resting intact on your hard disk! GRUB cant find him! you have to configure your GRUB to find the right path to windows... follow this
open "YAST Control Centre * , click " System "
click " Boot Loader Configuration "
under " Available Sections ", should see yr " operating systems "
note the " tiltle " of yr windows partition
click " Edit Configuration Files "
go to /boot/grub/menu.lst or something on that line

look for this section,
### Don't change this comment-YAST2 identifier ; original name :
windows _ _ _ ###
change or add to this bit
title windows XP Home
unhide (hd0,0)
root (hd0,0)
make active
chainloader +1

So ?! any idea if this might work or not ?
Thanx again

I DID IT !!

hey guys !!! sorry for not posting in the last few weeks! i had alot of med exams...
anyway, what i want to say is ... I DID IT !!!
i fixed the booting problem in suse 9.1 personal
as all of u read here, i tried so many things but none of them worked !!
thje 1st thing i tried was from suse themself

http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2004/0...booting91.html

acctually what i did when i tried suse's advice is that the file they asked me to download and burn it on a CD then use it with the suse installtion CD.. this file i downloaded it then burned it on a CD by copy/paste method !! i didnt make it "Bootable CD" !!!

It was by chance while im burning some music on the PC i noticed an icon on nero express "make bootable" !!
here the idea poped up on mind ! so i reburn the file as bootable ! and it WORKED !! so simple and fast !!

what a happy ending story ha ??

anyway guys thanx for everone who posted here n tried to give a hand on this.. im really so thankfull for all of u guys...

see ya
