Winmodem


May be this is very basic, but I have 2 questions about winmodems:

Is possible to install it and make it work in Linux?

and

how do I know if my modem is a winmodem?

1 - if it's supported. see linmodems.org
2 - it's on a pci card and doesn't have a big box on it.

Technically it IS possible. Check out www.linmodems.org for detailed info. If you want to know if it's a winmodem or not; Is it external? If so, it's probably got a hardware controller making it a non-winmodem. Some USB's are though. If you have an internal and it's ISA, almost definately hardware controlled, again, not a winmodem. If it's PCI, unfortunately it probably IS a winmodem. Best bet, get your modems model number, go to the manufact. website and check.
