WinLinux anyone?
Hey guys. I'm trying to install Winlinux 2001 on a machine with 95.
Dont have a clue about any Linux.
Have had a few problems which I have sorted most but stuck with: Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.
In the documentation it says:
If installed correctly and when booting stops with error message: No int found: its because loader was unable to automatically find the hard drive partition where WinLinux was installed.
Then it tells you what to put in the configuration. Which I have done. ( /dev/hda1 ) If I take this out it gives a Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:01
Any idea's???

Welcome to LQ
Sorry buddy, but I don't think you'll find too many of us here who have used/currently use WinLinux. The closest I think you'll see is Mandrake:
www.linux-mandrake.com
If you actually paid for a copy of WinLinux I think you get some tech support with that, you might consider using it.
Good Luck

If I were you I'd try a real-linux distro. Try Mandrake, as MasterC suggested...

I was going to say that too, but I resisted.
WinLinux is a thing for just trying out Linux. It's a total cop-out for people who are too afraid to take the plunge.
Jump in with both feet and get a distro like Mandrake, RedHate or SuSE. You'll be glad you did.

Mandrake is good, but if you want to avoid repartitioning, installation, and configuration, then I would suggest downloading and trying Knoppix. It's a bootable CD with excellent hardware detection that runs a Linux-based system entirely off the CD. No, you can't save files or anything like that (without some extra work), but it will let you play with a Linux-based system to decide if you want to install a full-fledged distribution.
Just to reiterate, Knoppix will NOT do anything to your hard drive.
Knoppix
