Winex declaring itself already installed when I try to install it

Yeah... My computer enjoys bullshitting me. I tried installing winex on a newly reformatted install of mandrake. It comes up saying its already installed. However, using locate, I only get three instances of it. One on the desktop (The install .rpm), and two in the recently used files folder. Using rpm -qa | grep winex (Or rpm -qa | grep WineX, or rpm -qa grep WineX, or rpm -qa Winex) outputs absolutely nothing. What is up with this?!?

if you have the "original" Wine installed (from winehq, check out) it complains, since WineX is basically a "edited" version of Wine; that is, it includes the original Wine and therefore will not install unless you remove the "original" Wine first. WineX ought to have the same functionality than the original Wine, as far as I understand, but add directX-style support and stuff for playing games. so, if you have Wine installed (not necessarily WineX), then remove it first and then try again....

imo WineX isn't so wonderful. I've tried it, but it didn't run the games any better than the original version of Wine I already had...well, I guess I just did something wrong.

Ok, this is dumb s**t. I'm now getting this stupid message every time I try to install anything: 'Everything is already installed'

This is a newly reformatted system and it's getting annoying that its screwing up with everything.

ah, the joys of rpm's. have you tried searching for wine files? you can use "locate" or "find" commands. I don't use rpm's, but there must be some index file listing installed rpms, try checking that to see if wine/winex is listed.

Yes, I'm hoping to find this index file... But I don't get how it would be saying that j2se would be installed when it doesn't come with mandrake. My computers just screwing with me. Everytime I reformat, something won't let me reach my final goal of setting up my computer as a recording studio. I either can't install things, can't run things, can't download things, or can't even start kde.

I'm pretty sure its just because my hard drives are old clunkers from the early-nineties.
