wine: windoze programs don't know what os it is emulating

trying to install adobe photoshop 7.0 and red alert under wine 20030618 (something close to that number at least, it's not the 20030709 release)

anyway, got notepad, winemine, ws_ftp, mirc invision, winrar, and winzip working well, but when i try to install photoshop, i get a message telling me that i need to upgrade to win nt sp 6a, and when i try to install red alert, i get a message saying the program was designed for win95...

what windows is wine trying to emulate, or is it none in particular?
any way to work around this (i'm using mandrake 9.1 rpm from sourceforge)?
also, is it possible that since i can't get wineconsole to run it might be the problem (i type wineconsole at the terminal and nothing happens)?

sry for all the questions, any help would be appreciated!

Read your ~/.wine/config file for the windows version iirc.

wineconsole is meant for running text mode programs.
