I tried to install wine from the package wine-20031212-1rh9winehq.i386.rpm but I thought it wasn't working and had to uninstall it using the instructions on the wine homepage. The uninstall crashed and now, if I try to install it again, it says package is already installed and if I try to uninstall it says

error reading information on service wine: No such file or directory
error: %preun(wine-20031212-1rh9winehq) scriptlet failed, exit status 1

Any ideas what I should do now??

P.S. Please tell me if I've done something really dense.

#1) when you install anything, you have to be root, or at least do it via sudo command.
#2) there is a option of forced installation in rpm, just 'man rpm' and you'll see it. Basically force it to proceed even if this rpm is already installed.

I am having a similar problem with a wine installation. I ran the RPM, but it turns out that I installed the wrong version. I try to uninstall using the rpm -e wine* command, but it says that the package is not installed. If I then try to install using rpm -ivh wine* it tells me it's already installed.
