wine + vmware questions
 

Ok i have a couple of questions about vmware and wine...

Which has more compatability? I have heard that vmware is has more compatability, but i have read this from an old topic.

Which is more stable?

Do i need to install windows with vmware?

and for wine (and maybe vmware) how much of the windows partition should I have for windows xp, home edition?

is the download of wmware a trial version?

You know, there's really no excuse for having not gone to www.vmware.com and www.winehq.org and just reading the homepages for the information. Asking other people to explain something that's readily available for research is a little lazy.

(I almost forgot this one) Wine has a compatability chart... I know that, but the question is, does vmware have one... I checked their website, and guess what, I cannot find a compatability chart! :O

Well, I was wondering this because, on their technical f.a.q., it seems to be lacking my question, shure, i can just Assume that it dosnt need windows, but MAYBE that wont be too wise...
Plus, im not shure which one would be the correct program to use...

Surprisingly, it seems like i cannot find this ANYWHERE on winehq... hmm... You know, I could go ahead and re format my hard drive, re-install windows, and check the size of windows that way, but Id rather not do that, because im not really ready to install linux yet, and Id rather do some more research before I migrate...

Ok, once again, it seems im not shure which wmware software i need to get... so the question remains a mystery to me... Yeah, I did look at what each of the programs were, but
obviously, I was too stupid to understand what they did...

And lastly...

I remember reading from their website that their program was based off the wine program, but I just wanted to conform it... I dont know why I asked other people to conform it, and I guess you could say I was lazy to do so.... Or maybe I wasnt thinking straight...

I forgot to ask about what people prefered too!

So mainly, Im sorry for "being lazy," im sorry for not clarifying that i did not look at the websites, im sorry for actually LOOKING BACK at previous posts before asking this question, im sorry for not being such a computer wiz and wanting a change from windows, and im sorry for my crappy grammer and spelling!

VMware and WINE are two totally different softwares.
VMware emulates another PC inside your PC, while WINE is more like a compatibility layer to execute Windows executables on Linux.

There are pretty much no compatibility issue with VMware, because you will be installing Windows again in VMware, and from the application's point of view it's running natively on Windows.

Get VMware workstation Linux version if you want to try it

The trial edition for VMware is a full version. This means it does not have any limits besides the limits of the full version. Though you have 30 days and this really means 30 days not 30 times for loading it like other programs. I suggest using the tar files instead of package based installation.

WINE Crossover has the same flaws as WINE and you have to pay for those flaws with your wallet. I suggest paying those flaws with your time instead of the wallet. WINE is not design to be user friendly and not design for novice Linux users, so do not expect it will run all your programs. I suggest compiling WINE instead of using package based installation. Knowing the Windows directory tree, knowing what files goes where, and almost all file formats will make it easier to config WINE. You do not need Windows or FAT partition to use WINE. WINE creates a directory tree to simulate Windows.

VMware is not an emulator. Its a virtual machine.

WINE emulates Windows commands to run Windows applications in Linux although the developers does not like to say WINE is an emulator which in fact it is.
