wine rpm error
hi
Ive had no success installing rpms. I really dont want to give up just cos i'm stupid. My latest failure is below --- please help someone.
I've downloaded wine-20030709-1rh8winehq.i686.rpm onto a pentium machine running redhat 9.
installed it
typed wine and got error:
[root@pc2-fare1-6-cust147 tmp]# wine
wine: chdir to /tmp/.wine-root/server-342-19419f : No such file or directory
[root@pc2-fare1-6-cust147 tmp]#
Then I did the following:
[root@pc2-fare1-6-cust147 geoff]# rpm -ivh wine-2*
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
package wine-20030709-1rh8winehq is already installed
[root@pc2-fare1-6-cust147 geoff]# rpm -ql wine-2*
package wine-20030709-1rh8winehq.i686.rpm is not installed
[root@pc2-fare1-6-cust147 geoff]#
Now I'm confused
Im a newbie (as you have no doubt guessed) so can anyone help - Please

ok first and foremost i noticed that the majority of people running redhat 9 and wine get that exact error ...
now somewheres on this board someone posted a temporary fix for this which i have no idea where it is at, but you can search the board, but on a final note, do not run wine as root...

thx - but still no joy - I think I'll have to learn a lot more.
It would help my confidence if I could only get something to work using rpms.
Oh well its down to patience and hard work I guess, but I'm not sure I'll kill windows just yet.
