Wine Launch Trouble

I have just installed wine. I got it installed ok, and manually created the directory structure. I also compiled it according to the instructions. I cannot; however, get it to run. I have tried running "wine <program name>" from the wine directory, and I have tried right clicking on the program I want to open and associating it with wine thru Nautilus, both with no luck. Any ideas?

I am also having trouble getting the program snex9x to run in the same way, and it doesnt require an install. It is another "snex9x <program name>" jobs. It must be something wrong with my syntax or my head...

Mandrake 9.1
I also have the Windows directory structure done.
No errors after the install but I did have to install Bison, and Flex first.
