wine error messages
Hi All;
I installed the latest version of wine for RH9 (I'll upgrade to fedora core 3 next week), and after trying to run wine I get some peculiar error message:
[chris@localhost chris]$ wine
wine: creating configuration directory '/home/chris/.wine'...
/usr/bin/wineserver: relocation error: /usr/bin/wineserver: symbol epoll_create, version GLIBC_2.3.2 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference
wine: wineprefixcreate failed while creating '/home/chris/.wine'.
This is after I already updated to the latest version of wine from an older version packaged with RH9, and updated to the newest glibc. Not sure where to go from here, HELP?
PS.. I've been using linux only for a week, so use small words please.

If you've fully applied all security updates it should work. But it's probably easiest to wait until you upgraded to FC3

ALWAYS download Sources instead of RPMs if possible. You'll have less problems with 'em. Cuz app will be built depending on YOUR environment.

Hi guys/gals;
I think the eventual course of action will be a Fedora install. I want to upgrade anyway, so spending a week on this probably isnt a value added activity.
FYI; for anyone else who finds themself needing to open office files, search for the "Openoffice" suite of tools for linux. I've been told by a red hat certified engineer that the suite is capable of opening excel and powerpoint files, as well as word files.
Thanks for all your help.

finally I fixed it
Hi everyone;
I got the wine to work in RH9.
If you are having wine problems I remcomend completely uninstalling the version of wine you currently have, and its associated glibc. Download the latest wine, and fine which glibc is needed for it.
install the new glibc with:
$rpm -U <put your new glibc here>
after it upgrades itself run an install for wine
$rpm -i <your version of wine here>
Note that the correct version of glibc isnt always the newest, this is what was giving me problems (i think). I had been trying to install glibc 3.3.2, when i needed a version in the 2.3.2 range.
I had Microsift word, excel, matlab, and maple all going on my linux box last night, it was glorious.
Hope this helps someone else.

I don't understand why you guys use Wine so much.... Cedega supports all the new games, Wine does not.
I'm using Cedega 4.2.1 and everything I have tried to install works like a champ.
