Wine error, Mandrake 9.2
 

Ok, first off, I think it would be good info to let you all know that I completely removed Windows from my hardrive and am using Linux entirely. I've download an .ISO for Windows XP, and am making a feeble attempt here to start a dual boot, only because I just got a bigger Harddrive.

That being said, I've been having stressful problems getting my CD-Burner to work. I've even tried Gnome-Toaster, which has an option to scan and find your CD-Burner for you. The only thing I can think of is that in the process of formatting my hardrive, I've deleted the key drivers for my BUSlink USB CD-burner, correct me if I'm wrong here?

So I'm assuming I must resort to Wine to install the drivers somewehere into the filesystem.
I installed Wine with no problems, mounted CD-rom drive, to execute "Setup.exe"(Installation file for the drivers off of the disc). To my surprise, Wine brought up the Winblowz Installshield program, and begins to install the drivers...Except that once their loaded, I'm getting an
"iKernel.exe not found" error. After a little research, I've come to find out that "iKernel.exe" is a file needed by Installshield...:rolleyes: , obviously.

The problem is, I don't have Winblowz anymore, so there is no way to update it?

I'd really appreciate a response as timely as possible, being that there are a few people in this house who are quite upset with me about erasing their Unsecure and Monopolized Operating System.. lol:D

well from what i've read, to be able to use installshield, you need to download and install dcom98.exe. you can get that from http://frankscorner.org

did gnome-toaster just not detect your cd drive? i mean if you formatted your windows partition, i don't think there's anyway you could've deleted any drivers or anything in linux if you indeed needed to install drivers for your cd drive in linux. are you sure you gave proper permissions for you users to be able to use your cdrw? i'd say try out xcdroast. when you first run it, you need to be root and set up a configuration file and to activate non-root mode. i guess you can then try and see if gnome-toaster would work. i'm using xcdroast myself right now and i like it alright.
i think there's the xcdroast package you need and 4 cdrtools packages.

could you please again and explain CLEARLY what you attempt to do?!

your post is not very easy to understand... you are trying to install stuff wtih wine because you erased drivers? what drivers? windows drivers? if you formatted the windows partition, YES, there is no more windows AT ALL!!!
wine is for emulating, running windows applications. you're going nowhere trying to install drivers on a linux system through wine. actually, it could be become a joke in the linux world...

now you gonna have to play a bit with kernel modules to get:
1. usb to work on your system
2. your cdrw to mounted and recognized properly

as for burning, k3b is cool, try it!!!

PS: dont run wine as root, you gonna destroy your system

Well, hope your not trying to be rude.. This IS Linux NEWBIE forum. And in my opinion, I explained quite clearly EXACTLY what is going on with me.

As for "playing with kernel modules" I am completely lost lol.

I checked out the Hardware, and my USB Cd-Burner is being detected, but there is no module for it. This is why I thought I should install the drivers from disc again.
