Wine & Linux ?
 

Internet still not working till I compile this new kernel for my linksys, but lets go away from that subject for now....

I got a new program called wine for my Fedora Core 3. I tried to use it to maybe emulate the linksys setup CD, but it just says KERNEL ERROR!

I was wondering... if I were to insert a video game CD like Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Academy and I opened it with the wine command.
EXAMPLE: wine (directory here with setup.exe located)

Will it go to setup menu and setup the game and install the files to a directory of my choosing? I'm currently at school typing this out so I cannot test it, but I would love to know if it works or not so that when I get home I don't feel disapointed in the program.


ANOTHER QUESTION: Is VMware able to emulate the install CD for linksys and make it work correctly?

Wine typically installs to it's own fake_c drive. You could repoint it during the install, but that may throw other things that depend on that directory out.

Your Linksys driver is unlikely to work if you install it with VMWare. Closing that program (assuming the driver works) will stop the driver working. You will need to use Ndiswrapper and the Linksys drivers.

Woh awesome, thanks for the reply. One last question. Where exactly would I find this "fake C: drive" at? Is there a way to locate it? I use GNOME desktop viewer. :study:

It should reside in your home directory. I think it is a hidden folder called .wine (don't forget the leading ".") and is in there.
