Windows vs Linux, which is more secure?

First and foremost, I want to apologize for crossposting. I'm pretty much new to the linux world, and loving it. However, I had a question I wanted to pose to everyone and see if you guys can help me get some information. My boss is a BIG windows fan, and he knows that I've been tinkering with Linux. He keeps bragging about how he read in some article for some PC magazine where some security expert said that Linux has just as many security holes and prone to hacking as windows. He also added that the only reason windows has so many more hacks is because hackers hate it and it's more popular. Now, I would really like to ask you guys this. Is what he saying true? I thought I had heard that Linux was more secure. Do you guys know of any articles that I can read that say the opposite of what he's telling me. I'd really love to shut him up. lol.. THanks

Most viruses "written" for Windows wouldn't do crap in Linux. Simply because normal users in Linux don't have admin privileges. It's impossible to run Windows as a normal user because half your stuff won't work, whitch is ridiculous. That's enough reason for me to hate it.

A rash of articles recently claimed Linux was less secure than Windows because the total number of security alerts for Linux outnumbered those for Windows.

The MS-Windows sysadmins claim that Windows is just as secure as UNIX is, and the only source of concern is that MS-Windows has such an overwhelming majority of the market share. UNIX sysadmins claim that UNIX is intrinsically better designed than MS-Windows is.

Maybe this statistic speaks against M$ (and their security):
http://www.netcraft.com/Survey/index-200212.html

There is one thing that really has to be secure in the world of computers: Servers.
So the fact that over 66 % of all Servers are running Apache and not MS Servers speaks for itself (and i don't think that Server-Admins prefer Apache just because it is not as expensive as MS Server).

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
