windows/ ubuntu side by side boot problem after ubuntu update.

i recently installed ubuntu 10.4 side by side on my machine. a short time ago i ran update manager and installed updates. the system prompted me to restart, which i did. the machine went to the boot screen and i selected ubuntu. upon doing this it goes right back to the boot screen, giving me the same choice. i should add that i am able to select windows, but that is something i rarely want to do. any suggestions? thanks.

There should be other kernels to select try not the top choice.

You're going to have to use your boot cd and go thru you're logs.
Ubuntu10.10 desktop has gui. I would use that to rescue.
Either that or backup data and go with 10.10.

The most likely cause is The update hosed you grub install. You will have to use the cd to rescue grub. There is a good howto some where in the ubuntu forums. There are also several threads here about the problem and how to fix.
