windows media files

im trying to play a video through mplayer and every time i try to play this video it says "Video codec 'Windows Media Video 9' is not handled. You might need to install additional plugins to be able to play some types of movies". i installed a bunch of codecs from Automatix2 so i thought i got them all. where do i get a windows media codec?

Visit the mplayer web site

Scroll down to binary codecs packages and select the package for your linux system. Download and extract the files to the mplayer codecs directory.

If your mplayer is recent, this would be /usr/local/lib/codecs or /usr/local/lib/win32
if using an old version of mplayer.

These codecs plays the latest windows
media files,quicktime, realplayer and others.

-Good luck

You are better off downloading the codec package from here. The documentation also tells you how / where to install.
