Windows Linux

Hello,

Could you plz help me, I'm running windows XP (also win98 installed) and now I installed Red Hat also.

I issued the following command:
dd if=/dev/hdf8 of=/mnt/share/grub.dat bs=512 count=1
and this makes a grub.dat file to the shared partition, which is readable with both XP and Linux.
Then I copied this file to c:\. Now the problem is, that I don't remember what to add into the c:\BOOT.INI file to make this Linux visible and bootable from the OS menu at the Startup.

Boot.ini looks like this:
[boot loader]
timeout=5
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
C:\ = "Microsoft Windows"

So what should I write into this?
Linux is installed on the second hard disk, and it's the 3:rd partition on the disk.

EDIT: Added C:\grub.dat = "RedHat" into the boot.ini file
still not working... just says "Not a bootable partition"

thanks in advance

what version of redhat did you install.
although that shouldnot matter anything over 7 i think even 6.2 ask you to install lilo/grub for a boot loader and this would of setup both windows and linux giving you 3 chooses upon boot.
So basically just install lilo or grub while in linux and setup the other so called os's

to setup grub as root

root: grub-install /dev/hda

this will install grub over your master boot record.
find out what partions are for winXP and win98 and add them to
/boot/grub/grub.conf

after the linux setup at the bottom
use something like this example

title WinXP Virus
rootnoverify (hd0,1)
chainloader +1

altough your safest bet is to reinstall linux and make sure the boot loader gets setup.
