Windows disappears when I try to minize?

Whenever I minimize windows in KDE, they disappear every time. I know they are still running; I checked it. They just disappear. They don't show up on my taskbar when open either. XMMS (and probably some other programs too) also does not seem to respond at all when I try to open it, and yet I know it is running. Logic tells me both problems are caused by a similar source...?

I'm glad I found these forums... Thx in advance for your help :)

Ok, bit of an update: I found that on startup KDE starts totem movie player about 10 times, and XMMS 4. In addition to that, it may be useful to know that the Bash shell opens to desktop on startup too, except it's in white(?). Wondering if this could have anything to do with the problem I mentioned above.

I don't use kde, but i think it needs a window list applet running in order to view open and minimized windows. Check your panel settings and add it if you need to.

As far as the xmms and totem on startup, I have no idea.

Right click the Panel and choose Configure panel. Make sure that you have show minimized windows, show windows for all desktops ect. selected.

I was about to add, before I lost internet connection for a few days, that whenever I am logging off KDE I get an error message something like

Bad Window (Invalid Window Parameter) 3

and teckk, I checked the options and the proper options were already selected. Windows used to minimize properly before the only crash I've had with Slackware. :(

Perhaps a recap on everything...

Windows disappear when I minimize them in Linux.
Using alt-tab or pressing both mouse buttons, they are present.
Whenever I log out though, I get an error message:

Badwindow (Invalid Window Parameter) 3
Major op code: xx
minor op code: 0

...etc. Is there Anyone who can help?

Ok heres what your problem is, you need to get the taskbar, right click on the panel go to add->applets->taskbar, then you can see your Windows

The reason all the instances of the apps are coming up is because KDE's session manager saves whatever you have open whenever you logout, so when you next login its still there, so considering your problem, you probably opened these apps a lot trying to get them to show up but you never killed them before you ended your session. So get the taskbar, exit the apps and logout, and log back in they wont be there anymore

I just found out how to eliminate all of the programs on startup. :D
