Yesterday I figured out i was gonna try linux. The thing is, i am very dependent on some windows application. So to find out what applications I used, i spent the whole day writing what I did on an avrage day.
What I did:
I scripted a little PHP. <- Need an editor (there's probably many better for linux then windows)
I used paint shop pro to edit some photoes. <- What program would be the best in linux? How do i get it?
I uploaded the php and image files to my webserver. <- Needs an ftp client.
I chatted a lot on irc. <- X-Chat seems to work great.
I surfed a lot <- Mozilla seems also to work just fine.
Now the tricky ones:
I had some fun with Macromedia Flash. <- does that come for linux? Or do i need to emulate it? :|
And the most tricky one, i played counter-strike. <- I know that's possible using winex. But winex doesn't seem to be free, but you can download it using something called "CVS", what's that?
To edit your photos, you have Gimp which is the reference (according to me). To get it: http://www.gimp.org/download.html
About ftp client, you must have one by default in consol mode called... ftp
Note about chat that mozilla also provides chat-zilla.
And CVS is the acronym of Concurrent Version System... a soft mainly used by developpers for project developpements. It allows us to always keep updated coherent version of the project. And This soft will allow you to download winex project as if you were a developper for this project.
I agree with Oliv'. I haven't actually used the gaim project myself, but have heard many good things. Check it out and tell me what you think, if I get up the energy, I might actually download it myself.....
