Windows 7 & Proxy Authentication with SQUID
 

Hi Guys

I am using a 2 Linux boxes, one as an email server, the other as the proxy server. And I am running a Windows 2008 Standard Server for a Domain with Active Directory, etc, for about 80 users. However I am having problems with the Windows 7 machines, not being able to authenticate properly with the Linux proxy box. When it asks for a username and password, the user put theirs in, which is correct, and they should be able to surf the net without a problem. The Windows XP Pro machines all work perfectly fine with no problems. However when u put ur username and password in on the internet explorer of windows 7, u need to do it about 101 times for the website to open up completely. Clients are loosing their noodles with this problem and so am I. Can someone please help me. I have checked the reg settings on windows 7 also and checked that the Lsa folder in the reg is there and working right.

From everything I've read, this has nothing to do with Squid, but with Windows 7. And I'm sure Microsoft has been nothing but helpful, right? :) You don't say how you're authenticating, but these may help as well.

With regards to the authentication problem. I have tried a few of the things found on google, as I always start with google first until I get stuck. Therefore i would not log a query here if i found a solution on google.
The way we set things up. Everyone on the network works through a domain account on Windows Server 2008. And it works fine with XP Pro. However, when we use the IE8 on Windows 7, then it brings up an error. And this occurs on a number of Windows 7 machines, and found one XP Pro machine where this specific error pops up.
The error i am speaking of is "Cache Access Denied". However most machines (Which are XP Pro) are all fine with no authentication issues. I have also spoken to a couple of guys here in Durban, South africa from DC Data about the problem. But they are a little baffeled themselves. And this is why i decided to post the request here.
I will try some of the solutions you have posted on the reply and in turn will let you know if it worked or not.

That's what I was asking about. Things are different if you're using NCSA, LDAP, NIS, or AD authentication, which is why I asked...you hadn't mentioned AD authentication in your first post.

is a how-to for Squid with AD authentication. One thing you can try, is to (if you can), enable squid using NCSA authentication, then try the Windows 7 boxes. Since you'll just be using htpasswd (files), you can see if it works then, without the domain getting involved, to try to narrow things down. If it IS the domain, you at least know which direction to move in.
