If you are loading a Linux OS and you want to format the partition, this shouldn't be a problem. Pop in the distro's disk and use a tool called 'fdisk' to repartition the harddrive. Your Windows 2000 disk should also have fdisk on it. Then, the HD will be ready and waiting for a nice new Linux OS.

Ok.
But is there a question ? I can't seem to find it
If you want to completely format your HDD, during the installation of LInux, you can select the "Remove All Partitions" option.
This will delete everything.

my question is, how do i get my computer to even read the CD ROm in the drive? I cant even boot up windows (cuz its missing some crap-and I dont have the sys restore CD cuz ive never been infected by anything before), so I cant even get a command prompt. Ive tried every darn thing known to mankind and short of me replacing teh harddrive on my notebook computer, i cant see any other options. Would my computer automatically sense the Linux CD or not?

LOL
reboot the computer, when it says "hit del to enter setup" hit the del key (NOT backspace)
have a look round the screen you get for a BOOT DEVICE or Boot order or whatever depends what BIOS version u have)
then set the first boot device to CD-ROM or IDE-0 / 1 / 2 / 3 depending which IDE your disk is setup to use.
then save and exit, shutdown, insert your linux disk, and reboot.
that will boot off your linux install disk.

qwijibow has it about summed up, just be careful not to screw up anything in your bios.
Also if its rebooting every one minute then that is the blaster worm. Since your reformatting then i wont bore you with the how to fix it details :P

wow, they are morons !
How can u work for a help line, and not even know about the bios !
Ohh, and you probably assumed this, but after you have installed, make sure you change the boot device back so it boots off the hard disk u instaled linux on
