Window Maker key binding question.
I've recently started using Window Maker and wanted to begin to customize the preferences to better fit my use. One of the first things I wanted to do was alter/establish keyboard shortcuts within WPrefs.app
Many of the default shortcuts include a "Mod1" keystroke. For example, to switch to workspace 1, the default shortcut is "Mod1+1". To switch to workspace 2, "Mod1+2", etc. What exactly is the "Mod1" key (?) and how is it represented on a standard 104 key board? Thanks for any guidance in advance... |
Mod1 is "Alt" and Mod4 is the "Windows" key. I set up WM to move between workspaces this way and it works great. My only disappointment with WM is I can't figure out how to assign keystokes to run apps.

Sargek, Thank you.
I thought I tried nearly every combo possible, not sure how I missed that one. Using the "Windows" key for switching workspaces is exactly what I had hoped to assign. Thanks for the Mod4 tip as well. |
Good to hear you got it figured out. I always use alt+1,2,3,4 to switch workspaces, but use mod4+whatever to run apps depending on the WM I am using at the time. My hands are pretty big, and alt+1,2,3,4 seems to be more natural to use for virtual desktop switching. Personal preference! I wish I could figure out how to use keyboard shortcuts to start apps in windowmaker. The clicking is killing my arthritic right hand - that's what I get for 9 years of code pounding I guess...
