I thought that might be the issue, so over last week, I tested the hard drives with hdparm.

Turns out, dma is on I guess. It runs about 40 when enabled and like 3 or 4 when not. Does that sound about right?

Should I stop some of the services you mentioned?

Should I tweak the kernel and recompile?

Ok, sorry, no more questions...<G>
