Win xp File share winth redhat 8.0

Hi

I have a fresh install of redhat 8.0 And am trying to work out how to file share between winxp and rh 8.0

I understand there is this thing called samba could someone Just explain in very simplle terms how this works and what it exactly is

This would benifit me Greatly as I am having alot of problems trying to configure either win or rh to see each other although I can ping rh from the xp box.

if u want windows to see your rh machine via network neighborhood, u need samba. samba handles the M$ proprietary smb/nmb requests of your Windows machine form you rh machine. you can google around for a sample, ready to use smb.conf file or a samba howto for more information.

if u want rh to see windows, search google.com/linux for xsmbrowser. pretty cool app.

I have been googleing all day trying to figure this out.
