Win IIS to *nix Apache server

I'm re-doing a guys site that was initially hosted on IIS (without PHP), So, I convinced his host to switch over to *nix Apache. But now, The I.P. supplied doesn't work. I'm told to make a static entry from my workstation. As you can see, I'm posting in the newbie section for a good reason. I have no clue what a static entry is, nor how to make one. I need this ip 216.138.253.204 to point to the correct domain (which it currently is not).

Any help is greatly appreciated. :newbie:

I can figure out some parts of your post  , but it will be hard not to mislead you unless you post the entire text again with more details.

I have to make a static entry to my "hosts" file on my workstation, declaring which I.P. the domain has to point to. But because I don't know how to make a static entry, I can't exactly do that.

Do you need static IP or an entry in hosts file (which is /etc/hosts in Linux)?

The latter. And I've already done that. And it still doesn't work. Do I have to upload the file to the server?

Well, no need to worry. It wasn't a problem on my side. The hosting company hadn't switched servers yet. It was still hosted on IIS.
