will modules_install hurt?

Hello out there :)

I have just compiled a new kernel.

I did "make_install". Now, I am kinda nervous of doing "make modules_install" which is supposed to replace old modules(?).

The thing is if the new kernel does not work and I try to reboot with the old one, will the old one no longer work because of the "new modules" installed?

TIA

Which distro are you doing it on, there are ways to keep the old kernel in a state where you can boot to it.

Thanks for the response :) I went ahead and did the modules_install. I can still boot the old kernel. But, the distribution I was using was Suse 10.3
