will it be slower to r/w vfat than r/w ext3 for Linux?

I have both xp and fc5 installed on my computer.
Most of the time, I used FC5 and usually my work
need to read/write operation. I am wondering
if it is slower to r/w vfat than r/w ext3 for

sometimes I need to use xp and share data between
xp and linux so I have a vfat drive. but I need
to r/w this vfat under linux. If this is slow
then r/w ext3, I want to convert it to ext3, otherwise
I will not because xp need it.

ext2 is faster than ext3 which is faster than vfat. You will have fastest speed performances with ext2.

I like my journal, I'd never give it up! vfat may not be greased lightening but I seriously doubt there would be a noticable difference, maybe 0.003ms or something.
