will an apple airport card work with Ubuntu

This is probably a really stupid question, but Im new so here go's. I just installed linux on my old mac and I cant figure out how to connect to the internet using our house's wireless network. It just shows eth1 as a network, but does not recognize any others. Im wondering if

A) The airport xtreme card does not work with linux or needs a driver.
B) Im stupid and just did the wrong thing
or
C) A mixture of both

Thanks for any help!

Welcome to Linux Questions. I believe the Answer is A). I know that apple uses the broadcomm chipset in their airport extreme, and the driver is very new and will require some work to get it to go.

This looks to be a wealth of information:

also look here:

a google search of airport extreme ubuntu or broadcom 43xx ubuntu may help

The critical bit for you is the kernel version number. Petespin27 is right, Airports use a Broadcom chipset, and until the bcm43xx was put into the kernel in version 2.6.17, PPC users were pretty much out of luck. So as long as Ubuntu 7.04 has a kernel that is 2.6.17 or later, you should be good to go. You probably also have to install firmware, and there is a crude how-to here.
