Like you were told numerous times, you can pretty much pick ANY distro; you were even told that Mint would be a good choice, and were even given a link that specifically walks you through getting that specific wifi card working. You can also load Fedora, openSUSE, or Ubuntu...all free, all will work just fine.

AGAIN: read about Kali. It is not magic; it is a Linux distro that has a bunch of things done to it to make it easy for security experts to use right out of the box. ANY Linux distro can do the exact same things, and be set up the same way. If you want to learn 'cyber security', do you not think it might be a good idea to know the BASICS of the systems first? How to configure things? How to look up messages? Check logs?? Things that an actual security consultant would do??
