Angry Wifi frequency configured as 5Ghz switches back to default 2.412Ghz.

I have a dual band wifi dongle connected to my laptap. My requirement is to configure the wifi dongle to operate at 5Ghz frequency in ad-hoc mode. This is the script I added on the etc/network/interfaces file

auto wlan1
iface wlan1 inet static
wireless-mode ad-hoc
wireless-channel 36
wireless-essid sample-adhoc

Channel 36 operates at 5.18Ghz. My problem is that the wifi channel does not change to channel 36 but rather remains at default channel 1 when only my laptap is turned-on. However, using the same script on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, it works perfectly. And when I restart my laptap, the wifi dongle connects to the ad-hoc network and it remains at the 5Ghz frequency. But when Raspberry Pi is shutdown, the wifi dongle switches back to 2.412Ghz frequency. I want the wifi dongle to stay at the 5Ghz frequency. Can anyone help me on this?
