Why such a large boot partition?

Why is the recommended size of the /boot partition size so large? 100mb?
In my 1.1gb RH9 install I have only a 16mb /boot partition with only 6.0mb of data in it.
When I had a 1.6gb install I had only 9.1 mb of data.

The RH9 Disk Druid warns against going below 75mb.

Seems like 100mb is excessive.

Something I'm missimg here?

when you upgrade your kernel, the old one isn't deleted from /boot, it is just given a new extension (.old). leaving more space allows for more upgrades. you can delete the old ones, but it could be bad to do that because that is like a fallback in case the new kernel is messed up somehow.

You need at least one cylinder and thats what mine gets - there is no way in hell you'll need 75 mb for /boot except you are a kernel dev.
