Question why only c is used for compilers and OS


Hi all,
This is another cryptic question put to me recently.
Why only C language is used to build compilers and Operating Systems???????

it's not. For example gcc is now implemented in c++.

The original Mac OS was written in pascal. C tends to be used for speed and not abstracting away devices. Before C was prevalent, an OS and drivers would be written in assembler or macro assembler.

there are java compilers written completely in java. Just as an example.
