why my network card always ping timed out?
dear all..
i just installed mandriva 2006 to pc with asus p4s533-x motherboard, i also install 2 network card there. when i connect to router in network (router also be the dhcp server) my internal n external network card cannot got ip from the dhcp server. n when i put a static ip to the network card n i ping to the router, it seem like reply too late. when i try to ping from another pc that request timed out then reply, then request timed out again... how to solve it? thx b4 |
Check your log file, /var/log/dmesg and look for the lines (toward the end usually) relating to ethX. If there is nothing there then it means that the network card is not being initiated. You can also use a consol and enter the command; ifconfig which will list the network devices.

thanks..
when i type ifconfig, the system detected the network cards.
but the dhcp client not work, so i try to put static ip, d ping works.. but when i try to ping my mandriva from other pc, i sometimes displayed request timed out n sometimes reply. |
If you want to obtain a dhcp lease then you should setup one of the cards to pickup a lease from the router. I don't use Mandriva so cannot help there. If you are using 2 cards then you must have a routing requirement and the cards must be on different subnets.
If you are using a static address the card should be on the same subnet as the LAN but the address must not duplicate an address that has already been issued by the router. |
thx...
thanks 4 d reply.. it seems like my network card had hardware error.. i will try again...
