Why is Youtube not working in Ubuntu 11.04

When I try to play videos on Youtube for example, I just get a black rectangle with no play button etc.. I also have had problems using Adobe Connect, which also uses Flash so I'm inclined to believe that's the problem. Since I've updated the most recent version of Flash I'm perplexed as to why it's not working.
Any suggestions as to why and how I can fix it would be GREATLY appreciated.

What browser are you using? The newer browsers are HTML5 compatible so that may be a way to at least get YouTube working.

For Adobe Connect have you looked at their requirements.

flash is proprietary software, and most distros will not install by default. you can most likely install it from a repo but I'm unfamiliar with Ubuntu and can't say how. there are ways to avoided using flash and remain using free software. I've a plugin installed on Firefox that will download imbedded video when I tell it to. this is one way to avoided the need for flash on youtube

The OP mentioned he has updated flash so it was most probably installed for it to be updated.

@MikeMo I had same issue with Ubuntu1104, execute sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer and restart your browser. That should get you working...
