why is the sound for skype and twinkle in ubuntu so bad?

any way except switching back to als to fix it? and how to do it best?

I don't know about Twinkle but in Skype people start messing about with their computer sound levels. The levels are set in Skype. Open Skype. Click on the S icon (bottom left) then go options>Sound Devices. I have to change Sound In, Sound OUt and Recording to the option with HW in it

Not sure if this will help but these ideas might help. particularly the IVP6 change, it did much for my web response time. There was 12 second delay caused by IPV6 slowing DNS lookups. I've seen somewhere before that slow DNS lookups can cause trouble with VOIP.
