why is my video image so poor, 945G on board video, 2.6.24-etchnhalf.1-686

X starts, no problem except the quality of the screens, especially the fonts, everything is quite fuzzy.
here is my xorg.conf (i couldn't get dpkg-configure, or xconfig to go past the questions of the keyboard, so this is edited with vi)

The xorg tools no longer alter the xorg.conf file, and, as you can see, the display/monitor etc sections are pretty empty.

If your display is fuzzy, you may need to adjust your screen settings using the monitor controls.
You could also add the old data to the default xorg.conf file... adjusting the driver options, horizontal and vertical sync etc.

You can also change display quality by adjusting dpi - which is normally done through the gui.

The last time I ran xorgconfig, it changed the xorg.conf file......

In this case, where are the settings stored?

Please don't post such long messages---95% of what you posted is not relevant.

What is your monitor?
What resolution are you using? (eg 1024x768)

Some distros still do this - Ubuntu doesn't. For one thing, xorgconfig don't exist here, you use dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and all it alters is the stuff about the keyboard and mouse.

I'd love to know - not in xorg.conf, that's fer-sure. Screen and video settings are supposed to be auto-detected... xserver has apparently got that good.

Basically, when it works, it's great. When it don't, it's a pain to troubleshoot. Usually, hand-editing xorg.conf overrides the autodetection as per the man page. I'd personally prefer to have the tool...

So if anybody can point out a reference?
