edit @ Geek255- that works, but you'll get lots of tweaky distros that are harder to install like that.
I wouldnt call a 512MB RAM P4 515 an 'old' system aynway. What exactly is considered an a old computer would vary, but my guess is that those distros are mostly aimed more at P3s with 128MB-256MB of RAM.

Very lame.
There is other ways around that problem...the best one that I can think of it to find a forum with a hardware focus with lots of local members. You might be able to find someone with the knowledge/skills to help you out, either to find agood local store (they sometimes like to hide in odd places) or maybe even come around to your house and help you.

If yuo can install ubuntu, you can change to xubunt/lubuntu (without the ubuntu stuff) easy. Its not a best way to get a 'lighter' ubuntu, but it works. This site has some great guides for how to do that-
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/
The commands vary from release to release. For example, to change ubuntu 11.10 to xubutnu 11.10 this is the command-
Code:

The page has links for how to do that to 11.04, 10.10, and 10.04. Dont try the 11.10 commands with a different version!
