Why is it that some wmv's work and some don't?

Hey guys, why is it that some wmv's work, and some don't? This is a pain in the you know waht since a lot of media is in wmv format. I have quite a few movies that are in wmv from when I had windows and I can't play them. Right now, im using the mozplugger plug-in. I had the mplayer plugin before but that didn't play all wmv's either so thats why I tried the mozplugger.

Can anyone let me know what is going on?

Also, on another subject, I need to reinstall windowz xp home edition but it won't work. I have tried several installation cd's and it won't happen. Everything goes fine until it says "windows setup will restart in blah blah moments. Setup will resume then." Well, after it restarts, I get a message saying, "press any key to boot from cd" and next to that, there is a countdown of about 10 seconds. So, I just let the 10 seconds run out and then a message pops up saying, "error loading operating system." So then, I restart the computer and get the same message again, "press any key to boot from cd" so this time, I press a key. What follows next is the same thing I just went through to install windowz and then it leads me right back to that point where it says "press any key to boot from cd."

Do you think its something in my mbr or cmos? Does installing it from the dvd-rom drive have anything to do with it?

Someone told me that I should download a windows 98 boot-up floppy and format my hardrive with that. Is this correct? Linux loads up and installs everytime without a hitch.

Any info is greatly appreciated everybody.

That's the nature of things coming form microsoft. It changes from one release to the next. Is there a way to tell which release version is involved? I don't know. I don't care. I don't leave any part of my life subject to the vicisitudes of micorsuxs. I use Linux, which is at least reputable and reliable. If you are having problems with windows wmv files, I suggest that you research the microsoft help files. Hee, hee, hee. Good luck!
Please forgive me if I sound testy. I used microsoft products for too many years. It had an effect on me. I'm trying to recover by taking a mega-dose of Linux. It's working. I feel better already.

PS: have you used Google to search for and find the win32 codecs, which you can install on al Linux system in order to get the full wmv functionality?

Yeah, I tried the win32codecs business with limited success. Still, only some wmv's play.

And yeah, I hate windows too. The reason I have Linux only right now is because of the reasons above. Pardon my french but Linux is the sh*t!!!!

as for the windows problem installing XP... when it goes to re-boot, it needs to boot the hard disk... DONT remove the cd, but reboot and hit DEL to get into the bios settings, look for the setting about boot decices and select the hard disk to boot from.. save, reboot.

windows installation should continue normally.

Thats what I initially thought, but it didn't work. I tried all sorts of boot combinations and none worked. When i tried the boot from hard disk option, I got the "press any key to boot from cd (with the 10 sec. countdown" but after the countdown, I got nothing. Just a blinking cursor. Not even the "error loading operating system message."

What gives?
