why i can't add this user?

i'm trying to add a user like this...

Code:
adduser -uid 5500 -gid 5500 -s /bin/false -d /bin/null -c "proftpd user" ftpuser
But i always get an error

Code:
adduser: no more than two names.
How to solve it?

If I try this on slackware I have to use "useradd" and not "adduser". The program complains about the -uid -gid options you use, the manpage shows only a -u and a -g (and an additional -G) option.
What works here is

Code:
useradd -u 5500 -g users -s /bin/false -d /bin/null -c "proftpd user" ftpuser
