Why don't I have permissions for my mounted samba partition ?

Hi, I'm new here...

I have a small office network, with a Red hat 7.2 server that
I use for file sharing (samba)

One of those Shares is my personal documents.

I have recently installed Red Hat 9 on my pc and I wanted to access the files...

But when I mount the share with root, I can only read the files once I am back to my session

:Pengy: Does someone know what's happening ? :Pengy:

Thanks for your answers

Just an idea: what are the permissions set on the directory u mount that smb share to? Make sure that users can read/write/execute from that dir

check for samba share settings (whether you have it shared as read only or not)

view the client connection and see if they are connecting as GUEST... this would typically give only read access

are you using swat?

Make sure that you are specifying the user ID in smb.conf if you're not using the default home path. It also helps to manually set the UID / password when you map the smb share in windows and configure it to reconnect on start. If you don't really care about security, you can always force UID and GID.

I just finished putting an example in this thread. See my post. There's a bunch of parameters you need otherwise it won't work, and you have to set it to share level security and not user level. You can use user level but it's more complicated for nothing and it's not as flexible.

Use SWAT and select the share. Set the "read only" to "no".
