Why does the startup freeze, and says error loading eth0?
i have mandrake linux 10.1
it starts up, with the little yellow bar (i think), and then it freezes. if i hit esc for verbose mode, the loading is stuck at "loading interface eth0"... pls help, im new to linux, but i wanna learn, beacuse windows is really getting on my nerves! Thanks! |
what that means is your distro is having trouble getting an ip address from your isp dhcp server. you might have to call your isp to see if you have a static ip

Are you connected wirelessly? I remember that I would have to modify my settings to not start eth0 on boot because I had a wireless connection.

I had that same kind of trouble when I tried Mandrake 10
It was a bit complicated as the box trying to connect was pulling double duty as a gateway for the LAN, etc. PPP, DSL, Cable? Static IP or dynamic (DHCP) Got a router? Also, check what you have set for the gateway address...and compare to what windows shows in winipcfg Note: I finally gave up on all Redhat Distros when I tried a Knoppix Live disk and it had no such problems.... (Although I do have an old RH9 on here now for grins...) It's hard tryig to figure this stuff out when you're not even familiar with the OS...at least that was my experience... |
