Cool Why does the sound disappear after a update?

Not new to computers but I am new to Linux. Running ubunta on 64 set up with a 64 audigy card.Have tried reinstalling alsa and other sound driver packages. I run my media but there is no sound to be found. Speakers powered, pluged in and all wires are correct. List of sound cards say there intel and audigy.Intel has (0) next to it audigy has this (1). IRQs are different. What I think is happening is Intel has become the default. I need to make audigy the default. I have checked all volumes and the are turned up. I know the sound is playing cause I see the player moving but no sound is delivered to the speakers. I did find and wrote down the directions to fix this but my filing skills are not as good as I thought.I know I went to many linux websites to find those answers. Been threw I lot more this time and can not find the answers. Can see the lines in my mind but they are to vague to make the correct distinction. Does any body have the solution or know what I am trying to find out? Linux is great and hail all computer users.

After updating alsa, you will need to rerun alsaconf. You may also need to run the mixer and unmute the audio.
