Why didn't the kernel devs include modules for coretemp in 2.6.21.5?

I have a intel q6700 processor. I wanted to modprobe coretemp so I can get valid reads on the temps of my cpu. I tried modprobing but the module isn't there. I took a look at make xconfig and the option for coretemp was nowhere to be found. Where would I be able to find the module?

You might try looking at a later kernel version. It looks like that module was not added to the mainline kernel source until 2.6.22.
