why did systemd create a .service?

I have created a /etc/rc.local file to launch a script at boot.
I did not create a .service for it.
Yet, checking systemd-analyze blame, I have found there is now a rc.local.service running.
why is that?

Because it presumed you wanted it run at boot. "man systemd-sysv-generator"

thanks for the answer.
I assumed that much but wasn't sure.
it seems that nothing escapes systemd.

That's like saying "nothing escapes init" - if you want to run anything in userspace, the init process is the ultimate ancestor. Regardless of init in use.
If you're using systemd you're using systemd - learnt to use it properly, and read the doco.
