I changed the video driver to (I think) gl and it worked, but I personally didn't like the dual window setup. Plus, it didn't have many options. I switched back to Totem but used Xine instead.

Now I get some "unknown error" every time I try to steam a movie in Xine. The problem is Firefox has "Movie Player" as the default player for all media files. I want to change it to Movie Player (Xine), but I can't find the executable in my files. Where would it be?

Use one of the two following commands:
Code:
whereis xine
locate xine
Usually this stuff is in /usr/bin/, /usr/local/bin/, or /sbin.

That's why you should have installed smplayer instead.
To use movie player with firefox, you should install totem-mozilla (the totem plug-in); the same one that you were advised to uninstall if you wanted to use (s)mplayer to stream media.
